Detect gluten on your plate with Nima
Gluten intolerance translates into a person's inability to digest certain cereals. More and more restaurants are adapting to gluten-free diet by proposing adapted menus, nevertheless not all the restaurants have had the same initiative. To answer this problem, the start-up 6SensorLabs has designed a connected portable gluten sensor called Nima.
Triangular in shape, Nima has a relatively discreet and compact look. It can be easily transported wherever you want.
3 minutes to detect gluten
The Nima Starter Kit is unobtrusive and easily transportable. Users can take it everywhere, including restaurants. Its operation is very simple.
The food have to be placed in a single-use capsule, which fits into the gluten detector. In three minutes maximum, the machine analyzes the composition of the food placed in it and displays its result.
A smile appears when the result is negative, ie when the gluten level is lower than 20 ppm (part per million). On the contrary, if the result is positive, the triangle warns the consumer with a message: "Gluten found".
The case analyzes almost all foods, whether liquid or solid, with the exception of alcohols (such as beer or hard liquor), vinegar and soy sauce.
A cooperative card to share your results
Powered by rechargeable battery, the device connects to the phone via Bluetooth to collect and record the analyzed foods and their location. This data is saved on the Nima application (available on iPhone). All users then have access to a cooperative card on which everyone records their results on the different restaurants or stores visited.
This map makes it possible to identify gluten-free places as well as to evaluate the reliability of certain signs in order to establish statistics and rankings.

Does having Nima mean I don’t have to tell restaurants that I can't eat gluten?
You should always tell restaurants about your dietary needs and restrictions.
While Nima is an amazing tool to empower you with more information as you make decisions about your food, you'll always be your own best advocate for safe eating. Communication will always remain an important piece of maintaining your diet, and you should definitely still communicate any foods you'd like to avoid to restaurants. Let them know that they need to take the utmost care in preparing your food.
Can Nima test for other ingredients besides gluten, like dairy or soy?
Right now Nima can only test for the presence of gluten in foods, but our team is in the process of developing tests for other food items such as peanuts, milk, and soy.
